Today, we find out what makes life grand for Tommy Coughlin, GSB Bentonville/Rogers Market President. When he is not actively involved in the community or building client relationships, he loves to be in the outdoors with friends and family. Here are some questions we asked Tommy about what makes life GRAND in the woods.
Interview with Tommy Coughlin
Give us a brief background about you and your family in NWA.
My wife, Susan, and I are both Northwest Arkansas natives. I grew up in the Bentonville/Centerton area, and she grew up in Rogers. Other than spending our college years out of state, we have spent the majority of our lives in NWA. Because of our time in NWA, we have seen the immense amount of changes that have transformed this region, and we are very proud to call this area home. Susan and I have three children: Tommy (6), Connor (3), and Maggie Anne (9 months).
What is a brief description of you and your role at GSB?
I serve as our Bentonville/Rogers Market President. It is my responsibility to lead our local Branch Teams, drive Community Engagement, promote Economic Development within the Market, and to grow our local Market Share by serving our existing clients and adding new business partners.
What makes life grand for Tommy Coughlin?
My family, friends, co-workers, and community are what make life GRAND for me. I’m a simple person, and all of my personal interests involve these three things. As far as hobbies go, I am very fortunate to have inherited a passion for the outdoors from my father. My brother, Michael, and I grew up taking any chance that we could to hunt, fish, and be in the outdoors.
I am now avidly taking any opportunity to involve my two boys in these same activities. It’s amazing to see them develop a passion for it at such a young age. The outdoors gives me the opportunity to spend quality time with my family, friends, and clients. Whether I’m in the woods, in the field, on a boat, or at our cabin, life is always GRAND when I’m in the outdoors!
What do you love most about your job at GSB?
To begin with, I love the fact that my job allows me to develop such wonderful relationships. I work very closely with our clients in trying to make their long-term goals a reality. As a result, this builds a level of trust, and many times, close friendships. GSB has such a wonderful and unique corporate culture, too. My co-workers are an extension of my family, and that is a rarity in the business world.
Additionally, my role gets me involved in community events I’m passionate about. For example, I am fortunate to serve on the Executive Board of the Children’s Advocacy Center, and I am involved in the Open Avenues Organization‘s Campaign Cabinet. Without the support of Grand Savings Bank, I would not be able to dedicate the time to be involved in these wonderful organizations. Many organizations talk about community involvement, but the GSB Culture really puts these good thoughts into action.
